Passion Fruit

image

Great-grandma’s skin.

That’s a fitting description of the outward appearance of a ripe passion fruit – at least the type that we know from the supermarket. The bright yellow passion fruit is industrially processed into juice and concentrate. It’s much more sour. The sweetly aromatic flesh with its firm seeds has a splendid tropical fragrance. As for seeds, we also offer passion fruit juice with the crunchy seeds. Ideal for smoothies and yogurt.

Passion fruit originally came from Brazil, Paraguay, and Argentina. Brazil is still the world’s largest producer of passion fruit, which are mainly intended for its own local fresh fruit market. In the juice industry, Ecuador is number one, although competition from Peru and Asia is rapidly heating up – an advantage in terms of price stability. For the most part, passion fruit prices over the past 20 years have been extremely volatile.
