Calamansi (Kalamansi)

A flavor explosion on your tongue.

No citrus fruit is as underrated at the calamansi. This cross between a kumquat and a mandarin orange is an aromatic high flyer. The golden-yellow juice of the calamondin orange tastes like lime, mandarin orange, orange, and lemon. It’s both sweet and sour.

No bigger than a ping-pong ball, this fruit is mainly cultivated in Asia and is rich in vitamin C, phosphorus, calcium, and iron. Hair tonics with calamansi are popular in Asia, supposedly producing healthy, shiny hair.

A tiny amount added to juice, ice cream, or a fruit preparation is enough to give your finished product a wonderfully refreshing, tropical flair.
