Sweet Chestnut (Marroni)

The delicacy from the sunny south

The sweet chestnut originally came from the Caucasus and spread throughout Europe with the expansion of the Roman Empire. It used to be a staple in the south long before potatoes and corn were established in Europe. The classic nut that we offer comes from sunny Portugal, is harvested between September and December, and is peeled between October and February.

This exclusive nut has a very high carbohydrate content, which is actually unusual. Most nut varieties are extremely fatty, whereas sweet chestnuts contain lots of starch and sucrose.
