Banana
What can we tell you about the banana that you don’t already know? Why bananas are bent? Or that, botanically speaking, they belong to the berry family?
This sweet, tropical fruit is actually a berry. And most of us know why bananas are bent: The fruit initially grows downward but then turns toward the sun, causing it to bend.
It gets its name from its unusual appearance. Arab traders in the Middle Ages called it a “finger” – “banan” in Arabic.
In addition to its relatively high energy content, bananas are especially rich in minerals such as potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium as well as vitamin E. Ripe yellow bananas are loaded with vitamins and easily digestible carbohydrates.
